Will Bloggers Be Interested in Guest Posting On Your Blog?
[this is part of the Fuel Feedback series ... engage with us at #FuelFeedback on Fridays]
Guest posting has become a powerful way for bloggers to extend the reach of their content, build their profile as a blogger, and attract a waterfall of traffic from the blog on which they guest post. This isn’t exactly news, but it brings to mind a question a lot of bloggers have about their own blog:
Will bloggers want to guest post on my blog?
It’s exciting to imagine a time when your blog becomes the place where other bloggers actually want to contribute their work, because it’s a sign that other bloggers like what they see and want to be involved. Guest posting is also a great way for you to fill your editorial calendar without spending the time it takes to create content. That said, you need to be careful here, as over-doing guest posting is one of the fastest ways to lose your voice and thus your readers.
So how do you get to that point? How do you get to the point where you can go on vacation and know that you can fill the time with guest posts from contributing bloggers interested in becoming involved with your blog?
The most direct path is dedicating yourself fully to your blog. Going beyond what has become the standard — some might say this involves posting more than once a day on occasion for those that normally post once a day … others might say this involves engaging in a different way than everyone else in your niche.
What bloggers look for
Though popularity and traffic might be a major deciding factor for bloggers interested in guest posting, smart bloggers will target blogs that are up-and-coming … blogs that have momentum and promise.
Does your blog attract guest posters? If not, does it have the potential?
Find out if bloggers will be interested in guest posting on your blog
As with all the posts in the Fuel Feedback series, I’m going to be visiting every blog shared in the comments section below and provide feedback regarding our topic — today’s topic being whether or not bloggers will be interested in guest posting on your blog. All you have to do is share the url of your blog in the comments section below, and I’ll stop by as soon as I can.
During my visit, I’m going to be looking at the consistency of your blog (consistency doesn’t require posting every day), your about page, your popular posts if possible, and your guest post guidelines if you’re actively looking for guest bloggers. This will give any blogger a good idea of whether or not you have momentum with your blog, and thus whether they should try to become a guest blogger on your blog.
The feedback I’ll be providing will be about the following:
- momentum
- engagement with the community
- foundation (popular content and about page)
- guest post info
- do you offer guest bloggers a promotional byline?
- will you add your guest bloggers to the about page if regular contributors (as we do here)
- will you create a dedicated page for your guest blogger?
This should give you a good idea of how to improve your blog so bloggers want to guest post for you, as well as provide a growing discussion about guest posting and what web publishers can do to attract more.
Want more than feedback this time?
Today’s topic sparks room for even more than feedback, and I’m willing to explore it with you if you’d like. In addition to providing feedback, I’m willing to provide you with an actual guest post if our blogs share similar topics. Again, the topic today is all about whether or not bloggers are interested in guest posting on your blog, so if there seems to be a fit between us (blogging and seo, blogging and writing, blogging and business) then you might just end up with a guest post from me!
Share the url of your blog in the comments section below to find out if bloggers are interested in guest posting on your blog … remember, you might even end up with a guest post!

I am looking forward to your feedback.
Hey Jennifer — thanks for sharing your blog with us!
Your blog definitely looks promising as a potential guest blogger, as you provide a clear structure bloggers can use to create their guest content for you. The columns provide a few topics that might appeal to a variety of different bloggers as a well, so you’re likely to attract more than just one group.
If I were a mom, I’d definitely try to become a guest blogger on your blog :D
Thanks, Christopher. I welcome dudes, too!
In that case, I’d love to provide a guest post if you’re interested — just let me know what topics you’re interested in covering. Feel free to post it here, or let me know over at Google+ … looking forward to hearing back!

Any feedback will be helpful, and I will guest post if our blogs are similar.
Hey Jessica,
Your blog has plenty of content to explore in the sidebars — something I feel other writers will enjoy, — and you’re blogging frequently, so everything looks really good in my opinion.
In terms of guest posting on your blog, I have one question: Are you interested in collaborative fiction?
With the exception of the collaborating authors, authors tend to go-it-alone in terms of telling the story, so inviting another voice to express on your blog might not be the right fit. However, I could be way off here … it might be quite refreshing for readers.
If you’re interested in guest posting with Fuel, please let me know — there’s plenty of room here for everyone, and as a writer I think you have a unique perspective to bring to the conversation. In addition, you may consider FuelYourWriting.com — our sibling blog!

I’ve been considering starting a guest blogging option to my viewers for some time now, but never went through with it.
Hey Lee,
You blog looks like it’d be suited well as a platform where people could share their ideas and voices.
Though the name of your blog includes your initials, it seems like it has the potential to grow into more of an industry-wide go-to place for services and advice. The question is, do you want it to be a brand about the community and craft, or do you want it to be focused on your personal work and services?
Excellent work by the way!
I haven’t actively searched for guest bloggers, but I’d like to someday! You feedback is much welcomed and appreciated! Thanks so much :)
You forgot to post your link, Allison! :D
Welllllll that’s embarrassing…haha!

Hey Allison,
Your blog looks great! The simplicity really draws me in as a potential guest writer.
I’d love to submit a guest post if you’re interested :D
Everywhere you click, Christopher, there’s another post on guest blogging. And I haven’t done one. I’m feeling so behind.
Like another piece of the puzzle that’s always been there, yet has just been turned over and suddenly noticed, the concept of guest –blogging seems to be suddenly spoken of everywhere. I like your angle – suggesting first to focus on momentum and then promise.
One of my self-set assignments is to learn about guest-posting. I want to learn what’s needed to win a post from someone you couldn’t even pay to be there if your shit wasn’t together; then what’s required before you’ll get looked at to BE a guest poster in a place where the spotlights dazzle. Hell, I want to get good enough to DO it; I certainly want to get my blog up to snuff enough to attract it. Not for a honey-sweet guest post, of course; I want everyone’s wish – what the honey brings.
You’re offering critiques. Generous, and thank you. Actually, as I’ve barely begun the blogging-go-round I’m not even ready for a critique yet. Barely got the sign out. But I’m drinking up your words, and making changes. Your series has shown me quite a few things. In a bit I’ll have a welcome mat; come over then. I’ll have a look at CreativeBlogger too. Much to do.
Sounds good, Anthony. And thanks a bunch for reading — it means a lot to me. :D
Have to agree with Anthony. I still have not set myself up for Guest Posting yet, though I wonder if it is early days for my blog (thoughts?). Still, agree with your point about not drowning out your own voice within too many blog posts (I think one every 2 weeks is admissible).
Good series, thanks for the read.
Thanks for the read, Neeraj.
Yeah — I think it really just comes down to the blog and the niche, and there always exceptions. Best to practice and take note for the future.
Just tweeted about 11 ways to write attractive and exciting blog post titles by the way!
I put up a page inviting guest bloggers just last week on my blog http://mypostcardfrom.com and was completely surprised by the response.
I’m not talking thousands but a handful more than I thought I would.
I had the odd dodgy company approaching me to do a guest post but as I’ve stated I was looking to fellow bloggers.
The majority of bloggers are fairly new but it’s nice to receive guest posts as I still consider myself fairly new too.
Nice — love the write for us page. Definitely a great idea to create a dedicated page all about the details and instruction.
In regard to the dodgy company, I hear ya’. Seems like guest posting has proved itself enough as an effective online marketing strategy, as it’s become a cheap selling point SEO professionals pitch.
Thanks for offering feedback. I blog at http://www.stealingfaith.com and just launched mommysorority.blogspot.com. StealingFaith is more established, but Mommy Sorority is going to be maintained through guest bloggers. (I hope!)
I’m looking forward to hearing your feedback!
Hey Juggler,
Looks like your your new blog is coming right along. Seems like it will be well suited to a guest posting community.
How are you reaching out to potential guest writers?
Thanks cristopher for offering feedback. My blog is http://guideandnews.com and this is a blog about technology, online news, web tips, blogging tips etc.
Hi Christopher,
I have tried guest blogging and found it quite effective. I have thought about putting up a guest posting page on my site but not sure if my blog is ready for it yet.
Here’s my site: http://www.internetmarketingclarity.com. Your feedback is much appreciated.
