Could be. For me, I like to think of one idea, then outline it and take each point of my outline and break it into a separate post. That way I have the whole series laid out up front.

Brandon,

I really struggle with my series. After reading this, It's obvious that I am not putting enough (okay, any) planning into them.

They seem to be born out of ideas that I can't finish in one post, and subsequent posts are almost tedious for me to write. Maybe the issue is loosing the original inspiration or train of thought?

nice Brandon.

Just an aside .. series are great for SEO too.

Have written 2 mega-series for http://guvnr.com ..

- Ubuntu Karmic Setup Bible .. 25 parts
- Unmanaged VPS Bible .. 40 parts and counting (used to have a life)

Thing is, rather than write the lot on 1 page, split into component posts and, properly SEO'ed, watch your niche dominate the search engine listings

I find running a series of articles can be a great strategy, however, it is vital that the topic warrants all that text. It can be incredibly difficult to keep you readership engaged when the subject is not up to par.

Regardless of how good the topic is, it's important to be brief and make the blogs/articles "skimmable" so that the reader can quickly locate the section they are interested in. These extra titles also make for a great place to add keywords for SEO - because, as any good blogger knows, we must always be optimizing.

Good post.
