In terms of driving traffic and leads, I think it depends on the niche -- after all, copyblogger has mentioned they've experienced awesome traffic from their twitter handle. Right now they are not available, as you stated. To be honest, Twitter really does not drive good traffic or leads when compared to other social media sites. But it does make sense for news sites. I am not saying to ignore it, it helps for seo and branding, but you probably wont make as large scale or sales as on other networks.
