You Are Not Entitled
… to popularity.
… to influence.
… to money.
You are not entitled to a following, to be invited to speak, or to claim you’re the expert. You’re not entitled to any favors, shortcuts, or quick fixes.
All those other people who have the things you’re not entitled to? They aren’t entitled either – they just worked hard.
So how do you reach popularity and influence? How do you make the money and become the go-to person? It’s simple. Work hard, post after post, mile after mile, day in and day out.
Write well and improve yourself over time. Invest your energy. Learn from others. Learn from your mistakes. Learn from the mistakes of others.
You are not entitled to much of anything, but that doesn’t mean anything is out of reach. It just takes effort to get there. And if it came easy? Everyone would be doing it.

Spot on Brandon — one of the biggest mistakes I’ve seen from a lot of aspiring probloggers is a steady stream of fluffy content … The kind you can count on to be there everyday, bit not necessarily solve any problems or connectw ith you in some way. So I think it’s important we not only set goals to post regularly, but also strive to contribute something to the community in order to help it grow and develop on some level.
Really applies to so much more than just blogging. I’m glad you shared this.
I agree with Michael – this applies to everything in life. It’s humbling, but at the same time it’s so empowering. You’re insightful as always – it puts everything into perspective.
I love this!! Never be happy with where you are- there’s always the chance to learn and better yourself. This post was great, short, sweet and to the point.
